I was co-opted to the Council in July 2024 having previously served as an elected member from 1999 to 2019 when I
stood down. I served as Chairman in my final four-year term. I have been a member of the Church Woods
Management Committee since 1999 and its Treasurer since 2002. My wife and I moved to the village in 1984 and are both members of St Edmund’s church. We jointly edited SEKAM from 2003 to 2023. I served in the Corps of Royal Engineers and am presently Chairman and Standard Bearer of the village’s branch of the Royal British Legion.
Now retired I research, speak and write about military history. In 2019 I wrote and published ‘West Kingsdown
Remembers – The First World War’ which recounts the lives of each of the men named on the War Memorial. This
was followed a year later by ‘The Rector and the Headmaster’. This documents the lives of the Rev Canon Warland
and Mr Paul Palfreyman both of this village.
